FRP spray-up uses a chopper gun to cut continuous glass roving, combine it with catalyzed resin and spray the mixture onto an open mold. Operators then roll the deposited laminate to compact it and remove trapped air, making the method economical for large, moderate-detail parts.
The gun meters fiber, resin and catalyst while operator motion sets coverage and local thickness. Rolling and staged buildup are essential because spraying alone does not create a void-free structural laminate.

Both are open-mold routes, but spray-up chops roving and deposits it with resin through a gun. Hand lay-up places discrete mats or fabrics, giving more direct control over orientation and reinforcement architecture.
